I also love being able to give back to up and coming designers. A few of my favorite trips have been to Seoul, South Korea, Coachella several times, Art Basel, and lots of inspirational shopping trips up and down each coast. I have been super fortunate to go on some amazing trips over the past few years. Q: What is your favorite part of your job?Ī: I travel about once a month for my job and love getting out of the office and finding new inspiration. Understanding the buying side of product has proved to be incredibly beneficial in my current role as I partner with buying very often. While the first year was really tough, it taught me SO much about retail. I started as an Assistant Designer 4.5 years ago, and I have loved being in design ever since. I didn’t realize how fun going to work could be and how much I loved creating products. I was incredibly fortunate to get connected to my mentor and future boss who later hired me for a design job in Target’s Product Design and Development pyramid. After a crazy first year of planning and buying socks and tights, I realized I was craving creativity and needed to get back to design. But being 22 and fresh out of college it is hard to know what you want to do for the rest of your life. I had interned at Target and Macy’s in buying and store management respectively, and thought it was a good fit since I loved product. After I graduated, I thought I wanted to go into buying instead of design even though I have a design degree. ![]() I moved from East Lansing right to Minneapolis, and started a job that was not the right fit for me. The transition of living in a college town with all of your friends in one place to moving to a whole new state with a small amount of friends and a new job is challenging at first. Q: What was an obstacle that you faced or something you found difficult when beginning your career?Ī: I think that the transition from graduating college to starting your first job is really hard. It was an unbelievable experience where I learned so much about what it takes to build a brand, design for a new generation I knew nothing about at the time (Gen-z), and create products people love. I also had the privilege to travel the country and learn from so many people about what they want in a brand and what clothes and current youth culture trends align with them. I learned how to define brand aesthetics, how to build a sustainable business model, and how to manage vendor relationships. In a short period of time I learned so much outside of my core role as a designer, which helped me grow. I was able to help bring the brand, Wild Fable, to life and see it thrive from an idea to being a brand so many people love. ![]() Q: What does your day to day responsibilities/tasks look like?Ī: I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to help build a brand from the ground up at Target. I work on new styles every month so I am constantly keeping up with trends, youth culture, the latest runway shows, and what is happening in the industry to have the most relevant products. So I’ve rounded up 5 of my FAVES from the pieces, tried on some other items that I think are passes, and then have some other pieces worth considering at the bottom of this post! The collection is 100s of pieces that give me all the Clueless movie vibes (did you know that used to be one of my fave movies ever)? And while I must admit that some pieces are a bit teeny bopper, more geared towards a high school or college aged women in my opinion, there’s a few pieces that I scouted out that I think are worth buying (coming from a 30 something working mom fashion blogger, LOL)! I will say that the Wild Fable line runs TTS or even a tad big, so if you are in between sizes, you will want to SIZE DOWN. It’s finally here! Target’s new women’s line Wild Fable has launched online! I am sure many of you who live close to a Target and frequent it, have started seeing the items in store and it can get overwhelming.
